DECEMBER 25, 2007:
Happy Holidays from the PW Online!
What would the holiday season be like without a Holiday comic? I can't even imagine! ;) So be sure to check out Amanda & Michelle's Holiday Special 4, online just in time for Christmas day!
Between getting the conculsion of The END of the New Ponderous Woman, posted earlier this month, and getting this holiday comic complete, I'm a little worn out. So I'm going to take a bit of a break while the new web site gets set up, and start working on actually doing some artwork for the new series, which will be coming out early in 2009.
Keep an eye on the Message Board for my reflections on the past year of NPW comics and my thoughts on what is going to be coming up in the future.
Most of all, be sure to have a wonderful, restful and safe holiday. I hope to see you all back here in January!
DECEMBER 2, 2007:
It really is the end of the New PW...
Pages 27, 28 & 29 bring us the conculsion of The END of the New Ponderous Woman, and I hope you've enjoyed the ride.
Yep, it's true, Amanda's days as the second PW are over. That doesn't mean there won't be any more comics - the annual tradition of a special Christmas issue will continue this year, I am happy to announce. And in the New Year, a new series will begin. I'm getting closer to having a real vision of what it will be. I have lots of ideas, but not a lot of time, so I have to carefully pick and choose what will actually materialize.
The entire set of pages of EOTNPW will be re-posted in the New Year as well. I actually want to improve some of the artwork (shading, mostly). As always, there's more to come!
NOVEMBER 23, 2007:
Two new pages this week!
We're getting closer to the final pages! Pages 25 & 26 of The END of the New Ponderous Woman are now online, and we start to see Amanda's revelation from her dream. I hope you enjoy it!
The last panel on page 26 was one I had sitting around when I was first doing "test" artwork for this story. It's not very often that I pull something like this out of the bin and re-use it, but I love the image of Amanda's stomach being so big that she can't reach past it to the table. It's the little things like this that I love throwing in!
The snow has landed on the ground, so being stuck inside I should be able to crank out some more pages for next week!
NOVEMBER 17, 2007:
Another week, another page!
Thank you to everyone who commented on the colour pages, I really appreciate your feedback! Unfortunately, this week we're back to black and white... And just one page, at that!
Pages 24 of The END of the New Ponderous Woman is online. I know what you're thinking - just one page? I know, it doesn't seem like much after the last few weeks, but I promise I'll try and get this story wrapped up in the next few weeks. I'm really getting burned with this pace I'm trying to keep, so no one's more anxious to the conclusion more than I am! But I'm also still having a lot of fun sketching these characters - I particularly enjoyed drawing Amanda in bed this week, for example. For me it's always a challenge to depict characters as big as Amanda in different positions, and this was one I really wanted to show in the comic.
NOVEMBER 10, 2007:
Three more colour pages this week!
I got some great feedback about the colour pages posted last week, thank you to everyone who posted about it in the MB or sent me a note. Let the fun continue this week!
Pages 21, 22 and 23 of The END of the New Ponderous Woman are now up, and they're in COLOUR! Just like last week, I'd hoped to get some shading done, but I just ran out of time. At some point in the New Year the whole comic will be available with "improved artwork" (meaning I'll shade it ;).
I've got a tonne of non-comic book related work to do before the end of the year, so I may slip up with my weekly postings. I still hope to get the rest of this comic posted by the end of the month, however. Wish me luck!
NOVEMBER 3, 2007:
Three colour pages this week!
Okay, last week I missed by first weekly page update since August 4th... I'm sorry, I was hoping I'd get to the end of the book without a delay, but as I posed on the message board, our daughter was ill. Everything is fine now thankfully, and with some luck I'll be back on schedule or the next month or so.
Pages 18, 19 and 20 of The END of the New Ponderous Woman are now up, and they're in COLOUR! Like the earlier pages, I'd hoped to get some shading done, but I just ran out of time. At some point in the New Year the whole comic will be available with "improved artwork," meaning I'll shade it. Sigh, the grind of the underpaid comic book schlub!
Stay tuned for next week, there will be more colour pages coming!
OCTOBER 20, 2007:
Two important pages this week!.
Pages 16 and 17 of The END of the New Ponderous Woman - are now up. These are important pages, so pay close attention! ;) Once again, I am struggling to meet my deadlines, so you'll have to wait until the comic gets reposted (probably in the New Year) to see the shading added. Finishing both pages this week really left me sweating! Whew!
The new few weeks will have multiple-page posts, too. But the big surprise will be that these pages are in COLOUR! Neat, huh? So be sure to back and check those out. It's going to be a really fun couple of weeks, taking us right through Halloween.
OCTOBER 14, 2007:
Another week, another page...
Let me tell you, I had a hard time making the deadline this week - but here it is, page 15 of The END of the New Ponderous Woman - the action continues!
Next week I aim to have two new pages up, and then after that (time permitting) we'll be into the COLOUR pages. It'll be the first colour comic pages since the debut of the New PW in 2004. Pretty neat, huh? So please stay tuned.
OCTOBER 6, 2007:
The week you've been waiting for!
Two exciting pages of The END of the New Ponderous Woman posted this week (13 & 14), including the page you've been waiting for... Go have a read and then let me know what you make of it all.
I really hoped I'd have enough time to do some shading on these pages (particularly the big drawing of Amanda), but I've set a pace & schedule for myself that I'm trying to keep. Plus, bandwidth is burning up pretty well - I'm glad somebody is actually reading! So I will do the shading for the re-post, once the entire comic is done.
I'm on track to have two new pages up next week. Don't go too far!
SEPTEMBER 29, 2007:
More mayhem this week!
There are two exciting pages of The END of the New Ponderous Woman posted this week (pgs 11 & 12). The action is really starting to unfold in these pages, but wait until next week... You're in for a real surprise!
I haven't had a chance to put up Derrick Fish's really beautiful PW artwork, but I'll get it up for next week, I promise! Of course I highly recommend you check out his blog for this and other great artwork.
Back to the drawing table, I have to crank out some more stuff for next week!
SEPTEMBER 22, 2007:
Watch out, here comes Jessica!
I'd hoped to get two pages up this week, but I just ran out of time, so only page 10 of The END of the New Ponderous Woman is posted this week. But as I've mentioned before, I'm going to try to have more weeks of multiple page posts so that we can finish this story up in time for another Christmas special.
Derrick Fish has completed a gorgeous rendition of a scene from the New PW origin series - I'll be posting it on the site here soon, but in the meantime I highly recommend you check out his blog for this and other great artwork. Thank you Derrick! *Hugs!*
There's some great new action in the pages coming up next week, so stay tuned!
SEPTEMBER 15, 2007:
Two new pages this week!
This week pages 8 & 9 of The END of the New Ponderous Woman have been posted. There are going to be several weeks with more than one page ahead - as long as I can keep up the pace! - so that we can finish this story up in time for another Christmas special.
As I pointed out last week, old pages are taken offline as bandwidth usage climbs. Not to worry, however - the entire comic will be available again once it's complete.
Tune in next week for another two pages, and discover Jessica's fate!
SEPTEMBER 8, 2007:
Another weekly page update!
Another new page of The END of the New Ponderous Woman has been posted. If I can keep up a good pace, there are going to be a bunch of weeks with two pages being posted between now and the end of November, so stay tuned!
Older pages are being taken offline once again, as bandwidth usage climbs. Not to worry, however - they will be back again in some form once the first posting of the comic is done!
Summer is over, but you can still order Not As They Seem, the full-length comic book available from CafePress. I'm still working on making a digital version available.
SEPTEMBER 1, 2007:
Two new pages online this week!
The END of the New Ponderous Woman continues this week, with not one but two new pages posted today. Pages 5 & 6 have been posted together, and we all get a tour of Jessica's lab in the basement of the house.
All six pages are back online for this week only, so if you're just getting back from Summer vacation, you can catch up on the story so far. The first few pages will be taken back offline to conserve bandwidth next week.
If you haven't done your Summer-time duty already, be sure to order a copy of Not As They Seem, the full-length comic book available from CafePress. It's the best thing readers can do to support the Ponderous Woman Online!
AUGUST 25, 2007:
The weekly pages continue!
The END of the New Ponderous Woman continues this week with the fourth page posted today. Page one is now offline to conserve bandwidth - don't worry, those of your who missed it, the whole story will be back in some form later.
Next week I expect to post a couple of pages. Because there are only so many weeks left in the year, I'd like to get this story done before the Christmas issue is due to be posted, so there will be a couple of weeks with multiple page postings.
Finally, don't forget to order a copy of Not As They Seem, the Classic PW full-length comic book available from CafePress. By purchasng it, not only will you get a great comic book in the mail but you'll be helping support the Ponderous Woman Online!
AUGUST 17, 2007:
The weekly pages continue!
The END of the New Ponderous Woman continues this week with the third page posted today. The first three pages are all still available to read, but next week I will start taking the older pages offline to conserve bandwidth. Don't worry, the comic will be available in its complete form again!
Remember Jessica Ayano? She plays a big part in this story, so I figured we should check in with her before too many pages go by.
I promise I'll stop harping on this shortly, but just in case you didn't know... This Summer I've been trying to promote Not As They Seem, the Classic PW full-length comic book available from CafePress. By purchasng it, not only will you get a great comic book in the mail but you'll be helping support the Ponderous Woman Online! It makes a fantastic gift, too!
AUGUST 11, 2007:
The splash page is posted!
The END of the New Ponderous Woman officially began last week! The second page is posted today. Remember, new pages will be posted weekly, and older pages will be taken offline to conserve bandwidth, so check back regularly!
This week the "splash page" (the one with the title of the book) has been posted, and I'm sure it will be a surprise (and maybe a thrill) for a lot of you. I'm particularly happy with the depiction of Amanda & Michelle in the top frame of this page.
This Summer I've been trying to promote Not As They Seem, the Classic PW full-length comic book available from CafePress. By purchasng it, not only will you get a great comic book in the mail but you'll be helping support the Ponderous Woman Online! It makes a great gift, too... ;)
AUGUST 4, 2007:
The new story begins!
The END of the New Ponderous Woman officially begins this week! New pages will be posted weekly, but they'll only stay up for a couple of weeks, so be sure to come back regularly. Limiting the number of pages is necessary for bandwidth usage, but never fear, the entire book will return upon its completion.
Don't forget, if you haven't had a chance to read it yet, There's Nothing to Sphere But Sphere Itself was posted on the site a few weeks ago. Check it out, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

JULY 24, 2007:
New story online!
There's a brand new story for you to read online today! It was written by a very kind friend of the site, Wraith, and I contributed a few new drawings to go along with it. So please take a moment to read There's Nothing to Sphere But Sphere Itself and let the author know what you thought in the MB! I'll be setting up a permanent page for fan-created ficition pieces in the near future.
Also, if you have not yet bought a copy of Not As They Seem, the Classic PW full-length comic book, please consider it! Not only will you get a great comic book in the mail, but you'll be helping assure that this year won't be the last for Ponderous Woman Online!
Be sure to stay tuned to this web page... The new comic book will begin weekly updates on the weekend of August 4th! It's going to be a big deal, with no planned breaks between weeks. Some weeks will have more than one page, and if you miss a week, you'll miss the page! It's going to be a great comic, I think, so be ready for it!
JULY 9, 2007:
Help keep the PW on the Web !
This website takes some funding to stay online. To date, I've been funding it out of my pocket. If you, the readers, would like to show your support and help me keep the website online for another year, the best thing you can do to help is buy a copy of Not As They Seem, the Classic PW full-length comic book I published at the end of 2006. Not only is it a great comic that I'm sure you'll enjoy, but you'll be helping assure that this year won't be the last for Ponderous Woman Online!
If you missed it last week, be sure to check out the new Truth Teller pieces in the gallery. More gallery stuff to come in the weeks ahead... I'm clearing through some of my sketches and drawing exercises that haven't been coloured, nor have they been posted on the web before. Some of them are kind of cute and kind of fun. Lots of bellys, boobs, etc., etc.!
As I mentioned last time, I posted on the MB that the next comic will begin in August. I am targeting August 1st, but it may be a few days after that. Work has started in earnest on it, it'll be another big project - perhaps 30 pages! It will be the send-off for the New PW and it will have pages posted weekly - sometimes more than one page a week. A few pages will likely be in colour, too. Although it will be the end of the NPW, it won't be the end... you'll have to wait and see!
JULY 2, 2007:
More new artwork!
You can see two new Truth Teller pieces in the gallery, they were exercises I have sitting around - I have a bunch more that I'll be posting in coming weeks. Some of them are demos for scenes coming up in the new series. Keep checking back and you'll see some of them popping up over the next few weeks. I have some non-PW related expansion pieces that I might post elsewhere (like on Curvage or Expansion Mansion, or Dimensions) soon - they're too much fun not to be seen!
Recently I posted on the MB that the next comic will begin in August. I am targeting August 1st, but if not that day, probably the weekend following. It will be the send-off for the New PW and it will have pages posted weekly - sometimes more than one page a week. Right now I'm planning on doing a segment in colour, which will be a first since I switched to the current comic-book format.
JUNE 8, 2007:
Something new at last!
I know what you're thinking... It's been a month since The Leadstone Gambit - Part Five finished - so where's the new stuff?!
Today there's new Truth Teller artwork in the gallery, the first of several drawings I'll be colouring in the next little while and posting. I've got a bunch of drawings, some of them tests and some of them exercises. Some of them are demos for scenes coming up in the new series. Keep checking back and you'll see some of them popping up over the next few weeks.
The new series I'd been mentioning on this page, and on the MB, will be delayed a little. The next comic, starting this Summer, will be a send-off for the New PW... More news to follow!
APRIL 18, 2007:
The final page of TLG!
Wow, two late pages in two weeks... I must need a vacation! This weekly page was supposed to be up on the weekend. It's Wednesday now, and you have my apologies. The Leadstone Gambit - Part Five (and the series itself) comes to a conclusion today, with the final page posted. I know, not a lot seems to happen, but is Michelle's joke a view to the future? I'll reveal more in the weeks to come!
Just because the series is done it doesn't mean there won't be more great stuff coming to the website! If you missed the site a few weeks ago, you can read my March 31st rant in the Old News section. It will give you a little bit of info on what is coming up. I'll also be updating stuff on this page, and on the Meassge Board to let you know some of the fun stuff I have to do before the next series gears up.
As I mentioned last week, one of the things I'm looking into is how to economically host this site and have a place to put all my work. Some changes will likely be in store, but I'm not still not sure what they'll be yet. More will come in the weeks and months ahead...
APRIL 8, 2007:
Better late than even later!
It's a couple of days later than usual, but I've managed to crank out yet another weekly page! The Leadstone Gambit - Part Five continuespage four. There's only one more page to go, so I hope you'll be back next week for the grand finale of this series.
If you missed the site update last week, you can read my March 31st rant in the Old News section. It will give you a little bit of info on what will come after TLG has finished. The imidiate future of the site will involve me sharing some artwork that I've got sitting around, publishing some things on the site that others have contributed, and, prior to launching a new series, a website redesign.
One of the things I'm looking into is how to economically host this site and have a place to put all my work. Some changes will likely be in store, but I'm not sure what they'll be yet. Unfortunately they'll likely be economically motivated, not creatively motivated, which is never the nicest situation to be in. More will come in the weeks and months ahead...
MARCH 31, 2007:
Page three is up!
Another week, another page! The Leadstone Gambit - Part Five continues, with a bit of a fun page. Lori is a new character in this series with an interesting ability - she can change her body shape! But, like with all things in the PW Universe, there's a price to pay in using this ability. Every time she changes her shape she gains weight to her natural form. This issue (and this week's page) demonstrates her ability, but as you can imagine, there is a lot of opportunity to have fun with her talents!
I'm going to go on a bit of a diatribe for a moment, I hope you won't mind. (If you do, just go read the new page and skip the rest!) A couple of years ago, in the last half of 2004, after doing the six-issue New PW series, I decided that, while a labour-intensive ongoing series (which is what the Classic PW series had become by its end) held little attraction, that doing a short series with a specific, finite story was more appealing. Hence the comics I've done since, including TLG. Well, as I've started here and on the MB, I'm getting tired of the shorter, finite stories, and have an urge to get back to the greater depth of character development that I could do with an ongoing series...
Hence, later this year, I will be starting a new, ongoing series. Now, none of this is news, so why have I brought it up again? Because of Loir. Originally I added Lori to TLG because she was going to play a big part in the next, short, five-part series. But now I'm not doing that series, I'm going to start an ongoing series. Lori will likely still be a part of this series, it still takes place in the PW Universe, but the focus is going to be different. At least the way I'm planning the story right now it will be. So what will become of Lori?
We'll just have to see, I guess. Just as my views have changed from 1999 (when the first PW comic went online) to 2001 (when that series ended) to 2004 (when the New PW started) to today, they will likely change again. Maybe Lori will take a back seat for awhile, and maybe some readers will wonder why I introduced her in the first place (they should!), but maybe her story will still have a chance to come to the forefront.
The only way to find out will be to keep reading!
MARCH 24, 2007:
Another weekly page update!
Page two of The Leadstone Gambit - Part Five is up now. This is perhap the most action-packed page of the entire story, so I hope you enjoy. One of the challenges for me is to try and cram as much story as possible into every page, every panel. Previously I've tried to add more panels to a page, but then everything just gets too small. I find it much more enjoyable to read pages like this one, I'd be interested to hear what other readers think.
I'm starting to get excited about what will be coming up after this series... if anyone has anything they really, really want me to include in future work, now's the time to let me know! My next project is starting to take shape in my head.
If you pay really good attention to my postings here and on the MB you may remember that, about a year ago (?), David Hill and I talked about doing a project together. I really thought it was a great idea, something totally different from the work I'm known for on this site, and something that WG fans would really love! I had dinner with Dave last week, and we talked about it again. The bottom line is: We both want to do, we're still thinking of doing it, but Dave is just too busy to commit enough time to it. I would be willing to put my plans for the next series on hold to work with him, and I let him know this. So, in the end, I think it will happen, it's just a question of when...
Make sure you come back every week for a new page, and stay tuned to the MB for news about the future of the New PW...
MARCH 17, 2007:
TLG Part Five begins!
Weekly page updates of The Leadstone Gambit - Part Five have begun! This is the final installment of the TLG series. I hope you have enjoyed it, and I appologize for its lateness. Originally I'd planned to have this completed last year, prior to the 3rd Christmas Special. Oh well, better late than never, right?
Another reason for these pages showing up a few weeks late was because I had a hard drive failure. Check out the Message Board for all the drama! At any rate, I am back up and running and we'll finish this series off on schedule, I hope!
Come back next weeks for another new page, and stay tuned to the MB for news about what will be coming up next.
FEBRUARY 16, 2007:
TLG Part Four concludes !
The fourth and final page of The Leadstone Gambit - Part Four is up now for your inspection. There's a great scene in this one with Michelle ruminating over Amanda's behaviour - it's a hint toward the future, my friends! As always, please send your reactions to the comic to me. The only way I can tell if I'm on the right track or not is if you tell me!
With this page, the end of part four, I will be taking a week or two off before the weekly updates resume. I'm going to be away travelling so this is a good spot for me to take a breather and get ready for the next batch to be posted. The weekly updates will then continue until TLG's conclusion. Check out the Message Board for comments on what will come after that...
Come back in a couple of weeks for the beginning of the next installment!
FEBRUARY 9, 2007:
More weekly page updates!
Page three of The Leadstone Gambit - Part Four is online now! Wow, this pace of doing a page every week is really getting tough! I hope those of you checking back every week are enjoying it. This week's page, and next week's page as well, touch on the further development of Amanda's, um, predicament... More to come on this in the future, I assure you.
The updates continue next week, so please come back!
FEBRUARY 3 , 2007:
The Gambit continues!
The weekly page updates of The Leadstone Gambit - Part Four continue, with page 2 this weekend. Things really start to heat up next week, so be sure to tune in and check out what happens next!
My other plans for what will be coming up in 2007 can be found in my Message Board post. As always, I want to know what you think, so please take a minute to post your thoughts and ideas!
Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend that you all go out and buy a copy of Ponderous Woman: Not As They Seem, if you haven't already!
JANUARY 27 , 2007:
The Gambit Resumes !
I know you've all been waiting patiently for new comics, and I thank you for that (being patient, I mean!). You're in luck - weekly page updates of The Leadstone Gambit - Part Four have resumed, as the PW enters its eighth season here on the Web! A new page will be posted every week until the series is complete. I hope you enjoy it, and that you'll check back each week as the story develops.
My other plans for 2007 can be found in my Message Board post. If you have any ideas, suggestions or things you'd to contribute, please check in and leave a post. No registration required!
I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend that you all go out and buy a copy of Ponderous Woman: Not As They Seem, if you haven't already!
JANUARY 11 , 2007:
Happy New Year ! Welcome to '07!
I'm looking forward to another exciting year at the PW Online - starting with new pages of The Leadstone Gambit in a just couple of weeks. I was hoping to get this series done before the end of last year, but I just didn't have time. So I'm going to work hard to finish it up early this year. I hope you all enjoy!
You can read more detail about my plans for 2007 in this Message Board post. Suffice to say, once TLG wraps up I intend to start another, new, ongoing series. I'll be revealing more details on the MB as they come together... And I think a site redesign is probably due, too.
Thanks to all the folks who have been reading over the years! Drop me a line and let me know what you'd like to see, I appreciate your thoughts!
Take care, Brenda
